Sweet honey and tempered spices come cloaked in warming smoke. Citrus zest, ripened tropical fruits and caramel swirl within hints of tobacco and raisins. The long, smooth, soothing finish is complex and fascinating – a myriad of influences played out over a subtle tapestry of peatiness.
In 1920, whisky crater Alexander Walker II received a knighthood from King George V for his services to the nation and his devotion to creating exceptional whiskies. The Johnnie Walker and Sons XR 21 was created to honour this very special occasion.
Inspired by Sir Alexander’s own hand-written notes, it is blended from the exclusive Johnnie Walker reserve of rare whiskies, all of which have been matured for a full 21 years.
Assuredly one of the best whiskies, the blended Scotch whisky has gained most five out of five stars on blended Scotch whisky reviews. This bottle is meticulously crafted through an extremely rare three-stage blending method that is reserved for Johnnie Walker’s most exclusive whiskies.
A sweet creamy core of rare Port Dundas is blended and married first. Then, whiskies that have been matured in American oak are added to add and nurture sweetness in the blend. Aged single malts are then added to the mix so that layers of rich fruit and malty flavours are encouraged and enhanced.
On the nose, notes of spiced apple, smoky oak and a little toasted brioche wafts from the whisky glass.
On the palate, the taste of this best Scotch Whiskey is rather herbal as it opens. It then gives way to tastes of orange and lemon peels by the bucket-load. This then follows with a kick of smoky malt, leaving a satisfactory taste in the mouth.
The finish has wafts of sherry-soaked raisins that are long and lasting.
The exquisitely designed bottle of this John Walker & Sons XR 21 year old blended Scotch whisky comes with a bottle stopper that resembles a crown, which is a sign of knowledge and thoughtfulness that has resulted in the production of this top whisky.
Enjoy John Walker & Sons XR 21 year old in any way you like, but we recommend taking it neat. Add 1.5 oz to a whisky tumbler and accompany with a glass of chilled, freshly-siphoned soda water.
